Based on the Emmy award-winning BBC television series of the same name, and presented by Global Creatures, Walking with Dinosaurs the Arena Spectacular has been seen by over 8 million people in 243 cities worldwide.

In the latest resurrection of the show, Artists in Motion was tasked with reanimating a key scene to include one of the world's largest pre-historic flying creatures: the Ornithocheirus. With the physical dinosaur asset serving as the major inspiration, AIM’s team of highly skilled 3D artists were tasked with cutting, modelling and animating the Orni, as well as creating a sequence of stunningly picturesque prehistoric landscapes which serves as the projection backdrop for the scene.

The Orni's fly-through environment was created using Unreal Engine 4 (a popular game engine), and this move from off-line rendering to a real-time pipeline revolutionised the team’s workflow capabilities, affording AIM the ability to build stunning environments in real-time at a fraction of the time it would have taken in a typical DCC package.
